[…] The second live evaluation period is in the rear view mirror and despite being short-handed on the recruiting trail this weekend the Friar staff managed to hand out some new offers to members of the classes of 2016 and 2017. Providence offered local New England prep players Hasahn French (Commonwealth Academy) and Samuel Japhet-Mathias (Vermont Academy), according to tweets from their high school and AAU coaches. Another offer that went out on Monday was to Oak Hill Academy big man Joe Hampton. Hampton tweeted about the offer Monday night. […] Sedee Keita is the key to Providence’s 2016 recruiting class. No offense to committed point guard Maliek White but that previous statement is a fact. White was a big-time get for Ed Cooley and his staff because they were looking to replace Kris Dunn — the former McDonald’s All-American is expected to jump to the NBA after his redshirt junior season in 2015-16. Had Cooley and his staff not landed White they would still be chasing other guards but if they didn’t find one they wanted in 2016 it wouldn’t have been a massive blow. The current roster has two or three players who are capable of handling point guard duties for stretches, including sophomore Kyron Cartwright who started some games alongside Dunn a season ago and could very well do the same this season.
