Recap

  • Providence welcomed Butler to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center for the 10th meeting all-time between the two schools. Butler led by as many as 11 in the first half before Providence chipped their way back into the game. Neither team had a particular good offensive first half with Providence shooing 10/30 from the field and Butler 12/32. Jalen Lindsey and Kamar Baldwin each scored 10 points for their respective teams but there wasn’t much else, including 0/7 from Alpha Diallo and just 2/7 for Kelan Martin. Diallo opened the second half with 5 quick points and Kyron Cartwright took matters into his own hands with 7 points in the first 4 minutes of the second stanza. The Friars made their first 8 field goals of the second half to stretch their lead to as many as 10 points. Their largest lead would be 12 but the half was closer than that most of the way. Providence’s hot shooting in the second half persisted while Butler remained cold from the field.
  • Providence was led by Kyron Cartwright with 18 points on 7/12 shooting. He scored 15 of those points in the second half. Cartwright added 11 assists in 37 minutes.
  • Alpha Diallo scored 10 points in the second half, including some key baskets after sitting for a stretch with 4 fouls.
  • Jalen Lindsey hit some critical shots that kept Providence in the game early and he finished with 13 points on 5/7 from the field.
  • Rodney Bullock finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
  • Kalif Young got the start in this one and provided some much needed rebounding from the center position,finishing with 8 rebounds and 8 points in 29 minutes.
  • Butler was led by Kamar Baldwin with 25 on 9/22 shooting. He was the only Bulldog to score in double figures.
  • Providence finished the game shooting 26/52 from the field for the game including 16/22 in the second half. Butler shot 22/63 from the field for the game including 10/31 in the second half.
  • Providence improves to 13-6 on the season on the season and their record in Big East play is now 4-2.
  • The Friars get a few days off before Creighton comes to the Dunk for a Saturday afternoon tilt.That game tips at 4:30pm on FS1.
