ESPN updated all three of their high school basketball recruiting rankings Tuesday. Paul Biancardi also gave some background on how the rankings are done:
We base our rankings on the four Ps: Performance, production potential and projection, among many other factors. First we analyze and evaluate a prospect’s individual performance, his production level now and possibly at the collegiate level, his potential in the college game, and where he could land on a possible professional draft board.
Let’s start with the class of 2015 where Providence currently has 1 open scholarship:
- 6 of the top 10 players are currently uncommitted
- There are only 12 total players in the top 100 who are still available
- Providence has been involved with #11 Cheick Diallo in the past but I don’t believe the Friars are serious contenders for Diallo’s services at this point
- The Big East has 6 players committed in ESPN’s top 100, including 3 committed to Marquette

The class of 2016 is shaping up to be a good one and with only 2 open scholarships in that class at the moment Providence can afford to be picky and focus their attention:
- Only 10 players in the top 60 are committed so far
- #5 Kobi Simmons – 6’5 PG – Saint Francis/Alpharetta, GA
- #7 Miles Bridges – 6’6 SF – Huntington Prep/Flint, MI
- #14 Josh Langford – 6’6 SG Madison Academy/Huntsville, AL
- #25 Amir Coffey – 6’7 SF – Hopkins/Minnetonka, MN
- #28 Rawle Alkins – 6’4 SF – Christ the King/Brooklyn, NY
- #34 Braxton Blackwell – Christ Presbyterian Academy/Nashville, TN
- #39 Temple Gibbs – 6’2 PG – Seton Hall Prep/Scotch Plains, NJ
- #45 Trent Forrest – 6’4 SG – Chipley/Chipley, FL
- #51 Jonathan Isaac – 6’9 SF – International School of Broward/Naple, FL
- #54 Bruce Brown – 6’3 SG – Vermont Academy/Wakefield, MA
- #57 Sedee Keita – 6’11 PF – 22ft Academy/Greenville, SC

The class of 2017 is one that Providence already has a commitment from in Javon Taylor. Taylor committed back in August after attending Providence’s Elite Camp. That commitment still leaves 3 open scholarships in that class right now and a ton of talent throughout New England:
- Just 1 player in the top 25 is already committed
- #15 Trevon Duval – 6’2 SG – Saint Benedict’s Prep/Wilmington, DE
- #24 Jermaine Samuels – 6’6 SF – Rivers School/Franklin, MA
- You will see a lot more names you recognize when this class’ list expands to 60 and eventually 100.
