Providence Injury Updates for Houston
Ed Cooley told Jon Rothstein of FanRagSports.com that the MRI on Kyron Cartwright‘s ankle came back negative and the senior point guard’s status for Wednesday’s game against Houston at Mohegan Sun is to be determined. Cooley also told Rothstein that Alpha Diallo (ankle) and Maliek White (knee) were held out of Monday’s practice and are both questionable to play against the Cougars.

Cartwright originally injured his right ankle during Providence’s win over Boston College on November 25th. After playing a solid floor game against Rider next time out Cartwright struggled through the game against Rhode Island. He didn’t start against Brown in the following game only to be forced into the lineup for the final 10 minutes of regulation and 5 minutes of overtime with the Friars in a bad way and down White who injured his knee against the Bears in that December 6th contest. Diallo would also go down with an ankle injury against Brown and neither White nor Diallo have seen the court since then. Cartwright played in both games after Brown but hasn’t looked fully healthy and has been without his signature lift and burst. A few minutes into the second half of the Friars’ last game against Stony Brook on Sunday Cartwright shot a 3-pointer and came down on the defender’s foot rolling that same right ankle.
Providence has two more non-conference games including Wednesday’s Hall of Fame Showcase matchup with Houston before Big East play begins on December 28th at St. John’s. The Friars will need all three of Cartwright, Diallo and White when league play gets going, so don’t be surprised if none of them play on Wednesday or Friday.
