Kris Dunn Named Preseason All-American by Sporting News

The 2015-16 Providence Friars will go as far as Kris Dunn can carry them. Dunn received a number of accolades after the 2014-15 season by being named the Big East’s co-Player of the Year, co-Defensive Player of the Year and a member of the league’s First Team. He also was a second team All-American for NBCSports.com, honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press and a third team All-American for CBSSports.com. With LaDontae Henton exiting stage right — with his diploma in hand — it will clearly be Dunn’s team this season. The preseason honors will undoubtedly continue to roll in for the New London product.

This particular honor is courtesy of the Sporting News, though some might consider second team an insult instead of an honor. Dunn joins Yogi Ferrell (Indiana), Skal Labissiere (Kentucky), Wayne Selden (Kansas) and Fred VanVleet (Wichita State) on SN’s second team. The first team is made up of Ron Baker (Wichita State), Malcolm Brogdon (Virginia), Nigel Hayes (Wisconsin), Georges Niang (Iowa State) and Marcus Paige (North Carolina). Dunn and Paige were either the #1 or #2 point guards in the recruiting class of 2012, depending on what scouting service you looked at. Dunn was also named to the Blue Ribbon preseason All-American team a few weeks ago.
