Recap
- The first half was ugly for both teams on offense. Both teams managed just 7 made field goals a piece on 56 combined attempts. The Friars were 24% and the Great Danes made 29% of their shots from the field. Albany dealt with lots of foul trouble with 4 players picking up 2 fouls and the Great Danes were whistled for their 7th team foul with 6:45 to go in the first 20 minutes. Albany also had 13 first half giveaways, but Providence only managed 5 points off those turnovers. Freshman David Duke led the way for Providence with 5 points and Providence took the lead into the locker room, 23-20.
- The second half featured a hotter start by Providence behind an opening old-fashioned 3-point play for Nate Watson — he started the second half after coming off the bench at the game’s start — and then back-to-back triples for newly minted starter Maliek White. White has started the last two games in A.J. Reeves‘ absence due to a foot injury. The lead stretched to 20 with an Alpha Diallo 3-pointer followed by a Diallo fastbreak dunk with 13:33 to go and the Friars never looked back.
- Providence was led by Diallo with 20 points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes. That’s now 10 career double-double’s for Diallo. White added 16 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds.
- Ed Cooley got some good minutes from Makai Ashton-Langford who finished with 7 points and 5 assists in 22 minutes of action off the bench.
- Providence was up, 23-20, at halftime. Through the first 10 minutes of the second half, Providence outscored Albany, 31-11.
- Albany was led by Ahmad Clark and Adam Lulka with 8 points each.
- Providence was a blistering 17/28 (60.7%) from the field in the second half.
- The Friars travel down to Austin to take on Texas in their final non-conference game of the season on Friday, December 21st. That game tips at 9:00pm and will air on ESPN2.
