Big East Media Day 2018: Providence Picked 3rd in Preseason Poll

Maybe it’s because the league is more uncertain heading into 2018-19 than in recent years. Maybe it’s because Ed Cooley has lots of respect from his peers. Maybe it’s because this year’s Providence Friars are actually that good. Whatever reason you want to assign to this the 2018-19 Providence Friars being picked 3rd in the Big East preseason coaches’ poll, that’s exactly what happened on Thursday at the league’s annual Big East Media Day at Madison Square Garden. If that wasn’t enough respect for Friar fans, Providence also has a player on the First Team All-Big East preseason team in junior Alpha Diallo and David Duke was named the preseason co-Freshman of the Year with Villanova’s Jahvon Quinerly. Take all that “respect” for what it’s worth.
