Providence Among 2019 Greg Gantt’s Final 9

Providence made the cut on Monday for one of their top recruiting targets in the Class of 2019 when North Carolina native Greg Gantt tweeted a final 9 of Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Pittsburgh, Providence, Tennessee, Texas and Vanderbilt. The Friars, led by assistant Jeff Battle, have been recruiting Gantt the longest of any schools on the list with Providence offering in July 2017. To put that in perspective, more than half of the 9 schools listed only offered in the last 40 days while Providence offered more than 300 days ago.

Providence is currently recruiting for two open scholarships in the 2019 class with Gantt and Putnam Science Academy’s Akok Akok as the two targets Friar fans have keyed in on over the last year or so. There have been new names that popped up like Rocket Watts and other names that have been around nearly as long as Gantt like Kira Lewis. The next steps for June recruiting are visits getting set and then it will be key to track Ed Cooley and his staff in the all important month of July when college coaches can again hit the road and recruit at NCAA certified events. Gantt runs with Team Felton on the Under Armour Association circuit and he averaged 12.0 points/game, 4.5 rebounds/game, 2.3 assists/game while shooting 52.6% from the field in Team Felton’s 8 games during the April live periods.
