Report: Vermont Academy’s Bruce Brown Considering Reclassifying to 2015

Scout.com’s Evan Daniels tweeted Thursday night that a source informed him of the possibility of 2016 Vermont Academy guard Bruce Brown reclassifying back to the class of 2015 and enrolling in college this fall. ESPN’s Adam Finkelstein followed that up by tweeting that “whispers of Bruce Brown going to ’15 started in early Dec[ember]. Biggest question is whether or not he can complete academic work in time.”

Brown is currently ranked 49th in the class of 2016 by 247sports Composite National Ranking but he would immediately become one of the top available players in the class of 2015 should he decide to make the move. Providence has been involved with Brown for some time now and offered him back in July 2014. The Friars do have an open scholarship in the 2015 class and Brown would be the exact kind of scoring guard that could help out on next year’s team that figures to be lacking in the scoring department with the departure leading scorer LaDontae Henton.

Daniels indicated in his original tweet that UConn is showing interest in Brown for 2015 and I’m sure there will be a host of other suitors. Some of Brown’s other offers for 2016 are Arizona State, Auburn, Indiana, Iowa State, Michigan, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Xavier and others.

This will be something to keep an eye on as the NEPSAC season progresses. Brown ran with BABC on the grassroots circuit last spring and summer. There is no word yet on what this would mean for a potential package deal with Vermont Academy teammate Tyrique Jones but that never seemed to have legs anyway. Brown will be playing in the Hoophall Classic this weekend at Springfield College. Vermont Academy takes on St. Thomas More (CT) at 6:30pm ET on Sunday. You can follow live statistics here.
