  • Providence went through multiple stretches with little to no offense and Xavier made the Friars pay. Rodney Bullock was especially futile as he started the game 0/10 from the field. His first points didn’t come until the 12:50 mark of the second half. Bullock finished with 2 points on 1/11 from the field and 3 rebounds. Emmitt Holt never seemed to get going and went to the bench early in the second half with foul trouble. He finished with 4 points and 2 rebounds in 24 minutes.
  • Trevon Bluiett was the story for Xavier. The junior finished with a game-high 22 points.
  • Providence’s best offense came from Isaiah Jackson and Kyron Cartwright with some shooting prowess from Jalen Lindsey ultimately being too little, too late. The other player that gave Ed Cooley good minutes was freshman Kalif Young. Young wasn’t afraid to bang down low and played with the most energy of any Friar. Jackson had his best scoring game as a Friar with 17 points. Cartwright finished with 8 points and 8 assists. Lindsey scored 15 points, including making a 3-pointer from Hyde Park. Young finished with 5 points and 5 rebounds.
  • Xavier shot 60.4% from the field, while Providence managed just 38.8%. The Musketeers owned the glass to the tune of 38-20. Xavier got more than half of their points in the paint with 42 of the 82 coming from down low.
  • Providence will be looking to avoid their first 3-game losing streak since early February last season when the lost at DePaul and at Marquette with a home loss against then 3rd-ranked Villanova sandwiched in between.
  • The Friars continue their road trip at Butler on Sunday, January 1st at 3:00pm EST at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

Defense was and is their #1 problem. They scored so many easy baskets that it became embarrassing. Some of their players were actually laughing .
#2 Rebounding. Especially offensive. It was like one shot is all were are allowed.
    # 3 Shooting. Numerous makeable shots didn’t go in.
I know that Coach Cooley is beyond frustration at this point. Butler who played well on the road lost to St Johns in a fantastic game. PC should be Huge underdogs. Our team is the worst playing team in the Big East at this point. The freshman who we are depending on played lousy like deer in the headlights. Losing this game is no real problem The problem is in how we lost this game. Total domination. Terrible loss.
