The SB Nation site BCInterruption.com is reporting that at least 8 players on Boston College’s men’s basketball team have been stricken with E. Coli infections. The school’s athletic medical staff sent out an email telling athletes to avoid eating at the restaurant chain Chipotle. Several members of the Boston College team reported symptoms of food poisoning on Sunday morning ahead of the Eagles’ game against UMass-Lowell — a game they would go on to lose — and senior center Dennis Clifford sat out due to illness.
It isn’t clear at this moment exactly which players are affected and how this might impact Providence’s game against Boston College that’s scheduled for 7pm on Wednesday. WCVB-TV in Boston is also reporting that the total number of cases at Boston College is 28 students and that the Chipotle in question — Cleveland Circle in Brighton — has been shut down.

UPDATE 9:21am, 12/8/15: BCInterruption.com is now reporting that the players’ health is “headed in the right direction” and the game is expected to take place as scheduled.

According to the Mayo Clinic’s website:
Signs and symptoms of E. coli O157:H7 infection typically begin three or four days after exposure to the bacteria, though you may become ill as soon as one day after to more than a week later. Signs and symptoms include:

Diarrhea, which may range from mild and watery to severe and bloody

Abdominal cramping, pain or tenderness

Nausea and vomiting, in some people
There don’t seem to be many, if any, mutually available dates for this game to be re-scheduled. I’ll update the story and tweet out updates as I hear any new information.
