Big East Bracketology Update 2/5/15

Joe Lunardi came out with his most recent bracket on Thursday and he now has 6 Big East teams in the field of 68. St. John’s had been teetering on the edge and snuck in on his Monday bracket after beating Providence but have now fallen out after losing at Butler. Let’s get to the rest of the league.

Here is a breakdown of Lunardi’s latest bracket:

  • Villanova – #2 seed in East vs. #15 Albany – AQ for Big East
  • Butler – #5 seed in West vs. #12 Wofford
  • Providence – #6 seed in West vs. #11 Old Dominion/Purdue
  • Georgetown – #6 seed in South vs. #11 Colorado State
  • Seton Hall – #9 seed in East vs. #8 Oklahoma State
  • Xavier – #11 seed in East vs. #6 Arkansas
  • St. John’s – First Four Out

Butler moved up a line from 6 to 5 while Providence and Georgetown remain on the 6 line. Seton Hall stayed as a 9 seed while Xavier dropped from a 9 on Monday all the way down to an 11 seed on Thursday. That undoubtedly has something to do with their home loss Wednesday night to Creighton.

Conference Breakdown

• Big 12 (7)
• Big Ten (7)
• ACC (6)
• Big East (6)
• SEC (6)
• American (4)
• Pac-12 (3)
• Atlantic 10 (2)
• Conference USA (2)
• Missouri Valley (2)
• Mountain West (2)

BracketMatrix.com is a very informative site and I think it adds value to the bracketology discussion so I’ll be featuring a section in these bracketology updates with information like average seed, number of brackets Providence appears in and a few other things. The appeal of BracketMatrix.com is that they are sort of like a composite bracket.
