Report: Tyler Harris Plans to Declare for 2015 NBA Draft

According to a report from RealGM.com’s Shams Charania, Tyler Harris is planning to declare for the 2015 NBA Draft. The report cites an unnamed source.

First let me say that it has not been a well kept secret that Tyler Harris had plans of going pro after this season. In a NY Post article from the summer of 2014 Harris’ father Torrel, likely the source of the RealGM.com story, predicted that Tyler would declare for the draft after this season.

Second I’d like to address the claim that Ed Cooley moved Tyler Harris to the a 6th man role off the bench in order to regress his development enough that he would stay in school for another season. That seems like an outrageous claim. Maybe even the kind of claim a parent of a player might make. The article says the move from the starting lineup to the 6th man is “a puzzling role reduction.” Why exactly is it “puzzling”? The fact is that Tyler Harris wasn’t having a great season and Ed Cooley made a decision on December 20th to mix things up and try him coming off the bench as a scorer. The minutes reduction from 32+ to 28+ should also be qualified by the fact that the 2014-15 Providence team has a bench which was not the case in 2013-14.

Finally let me say that if Tyler Harris wants to go pro after this season he should. But if he believes that he is a viable candidate to be drafted in 2015 he should check with some different sources. DraftExpress.com, a respected NBA Draft website, ranks Harris as the 65th best junior in college.

You are right Mike. His game has regressed. Keep hearing he is a good kid but he is kidding himself or other people are if he thinks he is ready to go pro..He is still like an over grown puppy whose paws are too big and just runs too fast and gets completely out of control
