Bracketology Update 12/8/14

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi came out with 1st edition of “Bracket Math” today. This edition includes games through December 7th.

Here is Lunardi’s S-Curve:

ALL CAPS: Highest remaining seed or AQ (automatic qualifier)
GREEN: Teams with tourney odds of 75 percent or better through games of Dec. 7.
YELLOW: “Last Four In” (would play Mar. 17-18 in Dayton, Oh.)
GOLD: Lowest four auto bids (would play Mar. 17-18 in Dayton, Oh.)
RED: “First Four Out” (teams 69-72 on the S-Curve)
PURPLE: “Next Four Out” (teams 73-76 on the S-Curve)

Providence makes the field as the “worst” 9 seed according to Lunardi’s S-Curve. The Big East as a whole tied for 3rd most teams in from any one conference with 7 teams in the field of 68. Every team made the cut except for Marquette,

The 7 Big East teams are:

  • Villanova #8 (2 seed)
  • Butler #20 (5 seed)
  • Georgetown #28 (7 seed)
  • St. John’s #30 (8 seed)
  • Providence #36 (9 seed)
  • Xavier #44 (11 seed)
  • Seton Hall #47 (12 seed)

Other notable things are that Villanova is the “worst” 2 seed and Seton Hall would be playing in the Play-in game round.

Here is the breakdown by conference:

• Big Ten (9)
• ACC (8)
• Big 12 (7)
• Big East (7)
• Pac-12 (6)
• SEC (3)
• Missouri Valley (2)
• West Coast (2)
