Game Preview

This is as close to a must win game that Providence has had to date this season. Losing on Saturday at Xavier makes this game crucial to get if the Friars have any shot to get into the NCAA Tournament this March.  The guys looked tired on Saturday but the defense was solid. Xavier only had 1 field goal (Semaj Christon layup after stealing the ball from Cotton with under 1 minute to play in the game) in the last 8+ minutes. The problem, as has been the case for most of PC’s losses this season, has been their inability to score the basketball.

Josh Fortune played his best game as a Friar on Saturday so hopefully he can carry that confidence forward to tonight’s game in Washington DC. Tyler Harris wasn’t awful on Saturday but with the way this team is shorthanded, he needs to be better than not awful. Mikael Hopkins has really come on for the Hoyas and getting Jabril Trawick has been a huge boost for this Georgetown team that comes into tonight on a 3 game winning streak.

Bryce Cotton was largely held in check on Saturday and it was only the 2nd time all season he failed to score in double figures. He was still able to dish out 7 assists but I’d rather he score near 20 points than give out more than 5 assists with the up and down shooting of this PC team.

It’s imperative that the Friars get out to a good shooting start and not fall behind because I just don’t think they will have the legs to mount a comeback of more than a few points. This will likely be a total old school Big East slug fest played in the 50’s or low 60’s. PC’s defense will keep them in this game and look for Carson Desrosiers to see more minutes again. I believe this team has something on turnarounds and will be able to pull this one out but it will be ugly.

Prediction: Providence 57 Georgetown 55
