Report: 2016 Center Khalea Turner Visting Providence

Steve Hartnett of ScoutFriars.com tweeted that Providence is hosting 2016 center Khalea Turner on an unofficial visit. Ed Cooley is still looking to bring in frontcourt size for next season and Friar fans can now add Turner’s name to a list that includes Canadian big man Kalif Young. Turner’s recruitment has been slow, which can be explained largely by the fact that he was waiting for clearance from the NCAA Clearinghouse. Turner got clearance on April 19th, according to his Twitter account.

Turner is listed at 6’9 and 250 lbs and is a native of Louisiana. He has played at a number of different high schools, including spending his junior season at prep basketball powerhouse Findlay Prep in Nevada. Turner returned to Louisiana for his senior season after averaging 3.6 points/game and 3.6 rebounds/game in 23 games at Findlay Prep. He also ran with the Louisiana Elite on the Under Armour Association circuit, averaging 3.3 points/game and 3.5 rebounds/game.

ESPN’s Scouting Report summarizes Turner as a “physical post with a college ready body. He can score and rebound with his strength that allows him to be a high major minus prospect with good upside. He could possibly raise his playing level with consistent production.” ESPN lists Turner as a 4-star prospect, while 247Sports ranks him as the 237th best player in the class of 2016, according to their composite national ranking.
