ESPN and CBS Sports have released updated brackets on Monday morning and we’ll continue to track the minutae of each bracketology update so you don’t have to. Joe Lunardi’s ESPN bracket and Jerry Palm’s CBS Sports bracket are in agreement on Providence’s seed line again, after their last joint update on January 4th also had the Friars on the same seed line. Providence

Providence faltered a bit last week with a home loss against Marquette, but they still have a very good resume and both brackets like Providence as a 3 seed in their latest versions. Lunardi has Providence on the 3 facing UAB in Oklahoma City. Palm has 3rd seeded Providence taking on Yale in Des Moines.

The Rest of the Big East

The big news in this update comes from Palm’s bracket. Palm has Xavier moving all the way up to a 1 seed, facing North Florida in the West Region. The Musketeers are still a 2 seed for Lunardi. Villanova is a 2 seed for both Palm and Lunardi and the Wildcats appear ready for another run to the top of the Big East after a 4-0 start to league play. Butler has gone the other way with their 1-3 Big East start and they are a 7 seed in both brackets. The first place these two disagree in terms of a team being in one field and not the other’s is Seton Hall. Palm has the Pirates in as a 10 seed, while Lunardi has them as the second team in the “First Four Out” category. Marquette makes an appearance in Lunardi’s “Next Four Out”, while Palm doesn’t release that level of detail.

Providence’s Non-Con Opponents

Michigan State continues to be a 1 seed in both brackets and Tom Izzo’s club got some good news over the weekend when Denzel Valentine returned to action following a few weeks on the shelf due to minor knee surgery. Arizona fell two seed lines from a 3 to a 5 in Palm’s latest bracket and Lunardi moved them from a 3 to a 4.
