Providence’s Academic Progress Rate Continues Upward Trend

The NCAA released the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) data on Wednesday and, once again, the Providence men’s basketball team saw their multi-year rate trending up. Since the arrival of Ed Cooley in the spring of 2011 the multi-year APR has increased after a dip following Cooley’s first season due largely to transfers. From a nadir of 915 following the 2011-12 season, Providence’s APR has skyrocketed to a high of 984 for the 2015-16 season, the latest year data is available. That marks the best multi-year APR in school history.

Friartown Fan Voice Podcast – Episode 6 – Recapping the Carelton Game with Brendan McGair of the Pawtucket Times

The third episode of the Friartown Fan Voice podcast is now live for the 2016-17 season! This episode is a recap of Providence’s exhibition game against the Carleton Ravens that was played on Saturday, October 29th at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. I was joined by Brendan McGair of the Pawtucket Times. Unlike me, Brendan was at the Dunk for the game which was not televised.

This episode is structured with a breakdown of each player’s efforts from Saturday night, a broad view of the game from the offensive and defensive sides and we finished by reacting to Ed Cooley’s postgame comments. Go ahead and give it a listen:

This should be available in iTunes so you can subscribe and be automatically notified when a new episode is uploaded in the future.

Thoughts from the Road: Friars Ice Cold at Home, Fall to Xavier

This Thoughts from the Road is brought to you by the energy inside the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and is fueled by Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee…a lot of it.

  • The Dunkin’ Donuts Center was absolutely rocking. The fans piled in early and were raring to go — no doubt after having a few pregame beverages — well before the opening tip. This was the loudest I have ever heard the Dunk. A particular shoutout to the lady sitting over my left shoulder who made Craig Leighton and I a little more deaf than when we entered the arena. Ed Cooley has been longing for a crowd like that and it was clear after the game that it hurt him to disappoint the 12,804 fans in the building.

Thoughts from the Road: 2015-16 Friars Make Dunk Debut Against D2 Stonehill

The “Thoughts from the Road” posts will be back this season and I’m looking forward to getting to write one of these following an actual Providence basketball game that counts. But for now I’ll give you my thoughts from the road after an exhibition matchup against Division II Stonehill that was played at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on October 31st….
