New 247Sports 2018 Top 247 Player Rankings Released Thursday

247Sports and Scout.com are all under the same umbrella now so these updated player rankings now feature a combination of analysts and scouts from both of those entities and they are separate from the 247Sports Composite National Rankings. Providence’s 2018 recruiting class is well represented with 3 of the 4 commits ranked inside the top 115. The Big East overall is lagging a bit behind their 2017 performance. That year they had 27 commits in the Top 247 at an average ranking of 137. In 2018 the league has 19 commits at an average ranking of 187. Rumors continue to persist that if 21st ranked Jahvon Quinerly is deemed to be free of NCAA wrongdoing in the FBI probe of Arizona assistant coach Book Richardson that Quinerly will land at Villanova, which would help the league recruiting stock.

Here’s how Providence and the Big East did in the latest 247Sports Class of 2018 player rankings:

God Signs an Extension

God Shammgod left Providence for a job in player development with the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks last July. After a successful year in Dallas in which Shammgod has received credit for the improvement of Harrison Barnes, the Mavs locked up the former Friar with a 4-year contract extension. While Barnes’ improvement is noteworthy for the Mavs after they signed him to a 4-year, $94.4 million contract, what may be motivating the Mavericks to keep Shammgod around is Dennis Smith, Jr. Shammgod and Smith have a prior relationship from Smith’s high school days and he is expected to be the point guard of the future after being taken 9th overall in April’s NBA Draft.
