Providence Recruiting Guide to the Second July 2017 Live Evaluation Period

The second July live evaluation period has arrived and the Providence coaching staff will be out and about stalking down talented future Friars all across the country over the next few days. A live evaluation period means college coaches are allowed to attend and evaluate recruits at certified events. This particular evaluation period begins on July 19th at 5pm and is active through 5pm on July 23rd. To read about why the July live periods are so crucial for recruiting, check out this excellent article by Rob Dauster at College Basketball Talk. Providence to Host Annual Elite Camp June 25th

Providence will host their annual Elite Camp on Sunday and two of the Friars top recruits in the class of 2018 will be in attendance. Elite Camps are a great way for players to get onto a campus and see the facilities, the coaching staff and the school’s players. I attended Providence’s Elite Camp two summers ago and, as I wrote after that year, I found the value of the camp to be more about relationship development between the Providence coaching staff and potential recruits than player evaluation. Ed Cooley and his staff are excellent at both, but this weekend will be more about relationship building, showing off the Providence campus and the plans for the Ruane Friar Development Center that is expected to be ready by September of 2018, just in time for the 2018 class to arrive on campus.

While some of you may be nursing an Alumni & Family Weekend hangover I’ll do my best to give you some news and notes from around the Providence basketball world to get you caught up on the on-court product and recent recruiting tidbits. Obviously Saturday’s win was a big one against 22nd-ranked Butler in front of a sold-out crowd at the Dunk, but the Friars still have a lot of work left to do if they want to keep dancing in March for a fourth straight season.
