The 2017-18 Big East schedule was released on Tuesday and the Friars will open league play on the road for the third straight season. Each and every one of the 90 Big East league games will be on national television with at least 17 games will be played on FOX. Last year there were 12 games on FOX. The Big East also has a deal with CBS to televise games. At least 2 games will be on CBS while at least 18 contests will be shown on CBS Sports Network. That’s the same as last season with CBS and CBSSN.

The Big East has said they will release the full conference schedule on Tuesday, but the league announced a bit of a teaser on Monday afternoon. The league will hold their Big East marathon on Martin Luther King, Jr Day this season. The news was reported ahead of the announcement by Kevin McNamara of the Providence Journal. The marathon will involve all 10 teams being in action with the first game tipping at 12pm EST and the final matchup getting started at 9pm. The Big East has had some memorable MLK Day matchups, especially in 2011 when a doubleheader featured games between top 10 teams with #5 Pittsburgh beating #3 Syracuse and #8 UConn taking down #7 Villanova. All five games on January 16th will be televised on FS1.

The first two years of the newly configured Big East opened the league season with a marathon tip off on New Year’s Eve. That will change a bit in year 3 as the college football playoff has monopolized New Year’s Eve and the Big East and Fox Sports 1 smartly don’t want to try to compete. While some teams will in fact open their Big East schedules on December 31st, the Fox Sports 1 marathon of games won’t take place until January 2nd. That means some teams will have a very tight turnaround between league games 1 and 2, including the Friars. There are also some games being played on December 30th.
