2018 AJ Reeves Commits to Providence

Providence kicked off their 2018 recruiting with a bang on Sunday when top-50 AJ Reeves gave his commitment to Ed Cooley ahead of Providence’s annual Elite Camp. Reeves’ commitment makes it two consecutive Providence commits from the Mass Rivals grassroots program, a pipeline that Cooley and the Friars are hoping to tap further in 2018 with David Duke. Reeves had cut his list to a final four on May 31st with the Friars being joined by Louisville, Villanova and Virginia.

Providence to Host Annual Elite Camp June 25th

Providence will host their annual Elite Camp on Sunday and two of the Friars top recruits in the class of 2018 will be in attendance. Elite Camps are a great way for players to get onto a campus and see the facilities, the coaching staff and the school’s players. I attended Providence’s Elite Camp two summers ago and, as I wrote after that year, I found the value of the camp to be more about relationship development between the Providence coaching staff and potential recruits than player evaluation. Ed Cooley and his staff are excellent at both, but this weekend will be more about relationship building, showing off the Providence campus and the plans for the Ruane Friar Development Center that is expected to be ready by September of 2018, just in time for the 2018 class to arrive on campus.

Providence Recruits Attending the 2017 NBPA Top 100 Camp

Providence has several recruits among the 108 players attending the 2017 NBPA Top 100 camp being held June 13th through 18th at the University of Virginia. This event is typically chock full of talented players in the rising senior and junior classes and it’s no different in 2017. Providence incoming freshman Makai Ashton-Langford attended this camp last year. One other interesting thing to note that usually happens at this event is the June 15th date for coaches to begin to have direct and unlimited contact with rising juniors. That begins at midnight on Thursday. The camp begins today and runs through Sunday.

Here is a list of Providence recruits attending the 2017 NBPA Top 100 Camp:
