The hashtag #pcbb began during the dark times of the Keno Davis era at Providence College. It was a way for fellow Friars and fans to comiserate on Twitter. Now that Ed Cooley has arrived and turned things around it’s time the hashtag makes it’s way into everyday society. I’ll provide my own opinions here as well as links to articles and news involving, you guessed it correctly, #pcbb.
As for who I am:
My name is Mike Hopkins. I’m a 2010 graduate of Providence College so, my time as a student at PC spanned the last year of the Tim Welsh era and the first 3 years of the Keno Davis reign. Back in 2006 I signed up for the ScoutFriars.com message board and began posting under the username flyerlax06. Many people mistook the “flyer” for “friar”. Some even thought I might be a random Dayton fan but, the flyer refers to my high school, Chaminade. “We are the Flyers, strong and warriors bold….” Sorry. Embarrassingly enough that was my first email address (now defunct): flyerlax06@aol.com. I also used flyerlax06 as my AIM screen name. Good times. Simpler times.
I’ve always enjoyed writing and it’s always easier to write about subjects that you are passionate about so, I decided to create my own Providence basketball website in January 2014. It’s been a fun ride and I’ll keep doing it for as long as it stays fun.
I’ve been credentialed for Providence home games at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center the last three seasons, as well as being credentialed for games at Mohegan Sun, the Barclays Center, the 2015 NCAA Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, the 2018 NCAA Tournament in Charlotte, NC and for the Big East Tournament each year since 2015.
With a new era of Providence basketball starting in March 2023 with the departure of Ed Cooley to Georgetown and the hiring of Kim English to take over the Friar head coaching duties, there is a new mindset in Friartown. With that, some changes to this site are needed. I have archived a lot of the old articles to have a fresh start and will be bringing in some additional voices to write occasionally, plus the Providence Friarcast podcast will be resurrected.
