The worst fear was confirmed via MRI on Thursday morning that Providence’s Bryce Hopkins has a torn ACL. The news was sent out from Providence via a release. Hopkins landed awkwardly after tangling feet with Dre Davis a few minutes into the second half of the Friars’ 61-57 loss against Seton Hall on Wednesday night at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. He was down for a few minutes and in clear and obvious pain and while initial hopes were that it was just a hyperextension that has unfortunately turned out to not be the case.
“We all feel for Bryce and his family in this difficult time,” Providence Head Coach Kim English said in the release. “We will be with him throughout this process to help him comeback stronger than ever. We ask that all of Friartown keeps Bryce and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”
Hopkins was named to the preseason Big East First Team during the league’s annual media day in October and was averaging 15.5 points per game and leading the team with 8.6 rebounds per game and minutes played at 33.5 per game.
The Friars have to travel to Omaha on Friday for their Saturday matchup against Creighton that tips at 2pm ET on FS1.
