Providence Adds 2019 Tommy Dempsey as Preferred Walk-On

Providence has only one player signed to a National Letter of Intent for the 2019 recruiting class, but Ed Cooley added a second commit on Wednesday with Seton Catholic Central High School guard Tommy Dempsey announced via Twitter he will join the Friars basketball program next season as a preferred walk-on.

Dempsey is the son of Binghamton head coach, Tommy Dempsey. The elder Dempsey weighed in on his son’s commitment saying he’s “proud of my son…[and] thankful for the opportunity provided to him by Coach Cooley.” Last season, Dempsey scored 9 points on three made triples in SCC’s state final loss to Mekeel Christian, 42-37.

The Friars have made a habit of adding preferred walk-on’s under Cooley. Most recently it was Andrew Fonts and prior to that it was Tom Planek and Casey Woodring. Planek eventually earned a scholarship.
