Providence 2018-19 Roster Rundown

Providence updated their website last week and part of the overhaul included an updated 2018-19 roster for the men’s basketball team. The Friars added four new names and five old names from 2017-18 are gone. Here’s the 2018-19 Providence Friars roster as of July 19, 2018:

Notes

  • Providence lost four players from last year’s roster to graduation. Rodney Bullock, Kyron Cartwright, Jalen Lindsey and Tom Planek all exhausted their eligibility and got degrees in the process — undergrad and grad in the case of Planek. Dajour Dickens transferred to Old Dominion in early July.
  • The Friars lost one scholarship player to transfer. Dajour Dickens, who sat out most of his freshman season with a back injury, transferred to Old Dominion a few weeks ago.
  • Incoming freshmen David Duke, Kris Monroe, Jimmy Nichols and AJ Reeves all debut on the Providence roster with their numbers. Duke chose 3. He will be the 10th Friar to ever wear that number with notable PC players Ryan Gomes and Kris Dunn donning it since 2001. Duke is listed at 6’5, 198 lbs. Monroe will wear 2. He will be the 4th Friar to ever wear it, most recently Marshon Brooks. Monroe is listed at 6’8, 220 lbs. Nichols will wear 5. He’ll be the 20th Friar to wear it, most recently worn by Bullock. Nichols is listed at 6’8, 220 lbs. Reeves will wear 10, which was recently worn by Kadeem Batts and is also the number Friar legend Joe Hassett wore from 1973-77. Reeves is listed at 6’6, 210 lbs. Sophomore walk-on Andrew Fonts wore 10 last season and will switch to 24, Cartwright’s old number the last 4 seasons.
  • The Friars technically have one available scholarship still for next season with the departure of Dickens. It remains to be seen if Ed Cooley will use it or hold onto it to add to the 2019 recruiting class.
