Providence’s Rodney Bullock to Represent Big East in 3 on 3 Tournament at Final Four

On Wednesday it was announced that Providence senior Rodney Bullock would replace Xavier senior Trevon Bluiett on the Big East’s team playing in 3X3U Hoops National Championship that will take place this weekend in San Antonio during the Final Four. Bullock will be joined by fellow Big East seniors J.P. Macura (Xavier), Desi Rodriguez (Seton Hall) and Andrew Rowsey (Marquette). The event is being put on by Intersport and is sponsored by Dos Equis and features a $100k prize pool paid out over the course of the 3-day event that features 128 players on 32 4-man teams representing all 32 college basketball conferences. All players are seniors who have exhausted their amateur eligibility. The games will tip at 7pm ET on Friday, March 30th at Bill Greehey Arena at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. The pool play games on Friday and Saturday and the quarterfinals on Sunday will beĀ broadcast live on Twitter. The semifinals, third-place game and championship games will be broadcast live on ESPN2 starting at 3:30pm ET. Tickets can be purchased here.

The payouts are as follows:

  • Each win during pool play earns the team $1,000 ($250/player)
  • A quarterfinal win earns the team $1,000 ($250/player)
  • A semifinal win earns the team $1,000 ($250/player)
  • The team that wins the championship earns $50,000 ($12,500/player)

The rules are as follows:

  • One basket on a single half court
  • 12-second shot clock
  • One point per basket inside the arc, two points per basket behind the arc
  • First team to reach 21 points or best score after 10 minutes wins

The selection committee was made up of college basketball experts from media organizations like The Athletic, CBS Sports, ESPN, NBC Sports and many others.

ā€œWe love the fast-paced nature of 3-on-3 and how it coincides with current trends in digital and social media consumption,” said Drew Russell, Intersport’s Vice President of Sports Properties. “For fans, this will be an opportunity to see the nation’s top seniors compete in the rapidly growing 3-on-3 format. For players, it will be one last opportunity to showcase their skills on a national stage and give them the chance to earn a significant sum of money. It will also expose them to the 3-on-3 format which may lead to new opportunities as they take the next step in their professional careers.ā€

Announced back in August, this is a fun idea by Intersport to provide a little extra basketball during Final Four weekend and it allows seniors with no remaining eligibility to compete and possibly win some cash before taking their talents somewhere other than college basketball. Another reason why a 3 on 3 tournament is interesting? 3 on 3 basketball will be part of the 2020 Olympics. The 4 players picked to represent each conference get a trip to San Antonio the weekend of the Final Four and they might even go home with some nice graduation money if they can play all the way until Sunday evening.
