Providence vs Seton Hall Suspended Due to Wet Court at Dunk
Providence and Seton Hall had played nearly 27 minutes of their important rematch at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Wednesday night when the return of the slip and slide court from last season’s Marquette game reared it’s ugly head. Both Rodney Bullock and Myles Powell slipped near the corner in front of the Seton Hall bench and that, combined with Desi Rodriguez slipping and injuring his ankle near the end of the first half, led to the officials suspending action due to unsafe playing conditions. Once the game begins the officials have complete control.
Game is currently suspended at the 13:03 mark of the second half due to unsafe playing conditions (condensation). We will keep you posted as more information becomes available #gofriars

PC game will be continued Thursday at Noom at Alumni Hall
— Kevin McNamara (@KevinMcNamara33) February 22, 2018
In a bizarre twist, the game, which Seton Hall led, 56-47, will resume on Thursday at 12pm on Providence’s campus gym, Alumni Hall. Kevin McNamara was the first to report that news. It’s unclear at the moment if fans will be allowed inside Alumni Hall, but I have a difficult time believing Seton Hall officials would agree to that. UPDATE: ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reported it will be students and faculty only in attendance at Alumni Hall.
Game will be completed tomorrow at noon at Alumni Hall. Only Students and faculty will be allowed. Same three refs. https://t.co/oGUyehEPTg

As of now it appears the game will be broadcast on some regional networks, including Yurview and YES Network and both John Rooke and the student radio crew at WDOM will broadcast tomorrow’s restart.
Providence was scheduled to leave for Washington DC on Thursday for their game on Saturday against Georgetown. The original time of that trip is unclear but playing the final 13:03 tomorrow afternoon may not even force the Friars to deviate. Last Thursday they left Providence at 5pm for Indianapolis.

One thing is certainly clear, the Dunkin’ Donuts Center has a problem and Ed Cooley appeared very displeased when the game was called due to a second straight year of slippery court issues. Last season, almost to the day, the game at Marquette devolved so badly that the referees decided to modify the rules of the game by not calling turnovers when a player with the ball slipped and fell.

One response to “Providence vs Seton Hall Suspended Due to Wet Court at Dunk”
I don’t know what the university pays to rent the Dunk, but I do know they must demand and will most assuredly get consideration for this debacle. How ironic after all of the many millions they’ve been pouring into the school, they still have to go off campus for hoops, and then this.
Anyway, that said, it might be the best thing that could’ve happened tonight. …time for the seniors to step up and ball.
