Recap
- Providence traveled to historic Hinkle Fieldhouse to finish the season series against Butler on Saturday afternoon. This was the 11th meeting between the Friars and Bulldogs all-time. After a back and forth first 20 minutes where both teams played tough defense the Friars went frigid out of the locker room in the second half. They started 2/16 and never got truly back into the game, ultimately shooting 30% from the field for the game after a 5/32 second half. The refereeing was certainly a story but not that they favored a team but that it was very hard to discern what was a foul. In the end the Friars played the game they wanted to play and were still in it but failure to make shots, scoring just 19 second half points, was their downfall.Â
- Providence was led by Alpha Diallo with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
- Butler was led by Kelan Martin with 19 points on 6/17 shooting. He also added 7 rebounds.
- Kyron Cartwright recorded his 600th career assist in the first half. Cartwright is the 3rd player in school history to reach that assist milestone, joining Ernie DiGregorio and Vincent Council.
- Providence falls to 17-10 on the season and their record in Big East play is now 8-6.
- The Friars return home looking to avoid a season sweep by Seton Hall on Wednesday night at the Dunk. That game tips at 6:30pm and will either be on FS1 or FSN.
