Providence’s game against DePaul on January 12th in Chicago will be special for being the Friars’ first trip to the new Wintrust Arena that the Blue Demons debuted this season. But it will also be special because this will be a unique production put on by Fox Sports. The game, which tips at 8:30pm ET, will air on FS1 without commercials and feature both head coaches mic’d up for the entire game. The announcers on FS1 will be Joe Davis and Len Elmore. Fox Sports experimented with this concept last season during a women’s game featuring St. John’s and Seton Hall. Highlights of that broadcast can be seen below to get a feel for the concept.
“FOX Sports is excited to expand upon our commitment to broadcast innovation with our partners at the BIG EAST Conference,” said FOX Sports President, Production & Executive Producer John Entz. “We’d like to thank the four participating coaches, as well as BIG EAST Commissioner Val Ackerman, for the support they’ve given us and the willingness to collaborate they’ve shown us from Day 1 of our partnership. We can’t wait to build upon last season’s success and showcase these four programs in an incredibly unique way.”
In addition to hearing both coaches on the sidelines and in the huddle Fox Sports will also have camera crews in each locker room during halftime. Those wanting access to a dedicated stream of just Ed Cooley can find that via the Fox Sports GO app and at FoxSportsGO.com.
“The BIG EAST is thrilled to be able to build on the success of last season’s women’s all-access game by partnering with our colleagues at FOX Sports for two more games this season,” said Rick Gentile, BIG EAST Senior Associate Commissioner, Broadcasting. “We look forward to continuing to help our partners push the broadcast innovation envelope.”
