AP 2017-18 Preseason Poll Released

The Associated Press released their preseason poll on Wednesday and Providence was among the group of schools who received some votes but not enough to crack the Top 25. The Friars got 34 votes and are ranked 30th by the 84 writers who cast ballots. The Big East has 3 schools inside the Top 25, including league favorite Villanova who is ranked 6th. The Friars’ first opponent at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games is Minnesota who is ranked 15th and Providence’s in-state rival finds themselves two spots in front of the Friars 9 days before the 2017-18 season kicks off across the country.

Here’s how the Big East and Providence’s non-conference opponents fared in this preseason poll:

The Big East

  • Villanova: 6; (USAT 6)
  • Xavier: 17; (USAT 17)
  • Seton Hall: 23; (USAT 23)
  • Butler: 34; (USAT 28)
  • Providence: 30; (USAT 32)
  • Creighton: NR; (USAT T-41)

Providence’s Non-Conference Opponents

  • Minnesota: 15; (USAT 15)
  • Rhode Island: 28; (USAT 31)
  • Virginia Tech*: 32; (USAT 39)
