Providence Among 2018 Hometown Guard David Duke’s Top 5

Cushing Academy and Mass Rivals 2018 guard David Duke released his list of his top 5 schools on Monday night. Duke tweeted out that he’s considering Florida, Indiana, Providence, Villanova and Virginia Tech. Duke is a Providence native and attended Classical High School prior to transferring to Cushing Academy last summer and reclassifying from 2017 to 2018. He used last summer and last school year to make dramatic improvements to his game and the recruiting attention followed.

Duke has long been considered a Providence lean, but the other four schools on his list are in hot pursuit as well. Duke told Corey Evans of Rivals.com that the Friars have “recruited me very hard ever since they offered and Coach (Ed) Cooley shows a lot of respect for me and my family.” Duke continued, “[Cooley] does a good job of showing me how he plans to develop me. He also has a good record of developing his guards and I love what he did with Kris Dunn.”

Duke had a productive Spring and Summer with Mass Rivals on the adidas Gauntlet series and he also attended a number of camps and select events lik NBPA Top 100 and, most recently, adidas Nations where he teamed up with Providence commit and fellow Mass Rivals guard AJ Reeves.

The Friars currently have three open scholarships for 2018-19 as of right now. It’s been rumored that Duke planned to commit before heading back to Cushing in late August. Keep an eye on whether he schedules official visits.
