Providence and the Dunkin’ Donuts Center to Host 2021 NCAA Tournament First and Second Rounds

The NCAA Tournament returns to Providence in 2021, the NCAA announced on Tuesday. Providence College will serve as the host at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center for First and Second Round games of the NCAA Tournament. Those games will be played on March 18 and March 20th of 2021. This will be the fourth time the Dunkin’ Donuts Center has been the site for First and Second Round games of the NCAA Tournament. The other times were 2016, 2010, 1996 and 1989. The Dunk has also been the site of the East Regional games in 1985, 1978 and 1975.

“We are excited to host the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in Providence at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center,” Providence College Athletics Director Bob Driscoll said in a release sent out by Providence. “We have established a rich tradition of hosting highly successful NCAA events in the City of Providence, and we look forward to serving as host once again,” Driscoll continued. He finished by saying “the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is one of the most prestigious and exciting events in all of sports. Hosting this event opens the door to showcase our great city, top-notch staff and venue.”

“The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament places Providence and all of Rhode Island on a national stage,” Martha Sheridan, President and CEO, Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau said in that same release. “It is an excellent opportunity to welcome visitors from all across the country. We have worked with Providence College, the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and the community on this event very successfully in the past and we look forward to working with them again to showcase our city and our state.”

Details on pre-sale will be announced closer to the event. Last time around tickets went fast for the 2016 NCAA Tournament First and Second Round games played at the Dunk. The Friars will not be eligible to compete at the Dunk in the NCAA Tournament because a school cannot play in an arena where they played more than 3 games that season.
