  • Providence and Marquette entered this game on the bubble. The story entering the game was about Providence’s 3-game winning streak and their attempt to make a fourth straight NCAA Tournament. However, the slippery Dunkin’ Donuts Center floor quickly took over as the dominant storyline throughout the game. The warmer air temperatures outside caused the ice under the court to cause condensation and slipping was a regular occurrence. It got to the point where the referees were allowing players to slip in what would normally be called a travel was allowed and the offending team would get the ball out of bounds.
  • Now to the game, Providence had one of their better offensive first halves of the season en route to a 37-36 halftime lead. The game continued to be nip and tuck for much of the second half until Marquette got hot while Providence’s offense stalled. The Golden Eagles were up by as many as 12 points in the second half but Providence clawed back into the game. Rodney Bullock’s tip-in with 1:31 to go have Providence a 66-65 lead. Kyron Cartwright, as has been the case mostly all season, was the catalyst with both points and assists. Bullock’s tip-in with just over 20 seconds to go put the Friars ahead again, 70-69. Bullock had 14 of his 20 points in the second half.
  • Cartwright finished the game with 16 points and 8 assists on 6/11 shooting.
  • Jalen Lindsey was the only other Friar in double figures. He had 10 points on 4/8 shooting.
  • Marquette was led by freshman Markus Howard who had 24 points despite dealing with foul trouble in both the first and second halves.
  • The Golden Eagles didn’t make a field goal over the final 7:20 of the game.
  • The Friars welcome the DePaul Blue Demons to the Dunk looking to avenge their loss in Chicago earlier this season. The game tips Tuesday, February 28th at 8:30pm EST. The game will be televised on FS1. There will be “Senior Day” celebrations held prior to this game as it is the final home game of Providence’s regular season.

I give myself credit for strategic turning off on off at certain points in game to change outcome. Never worked before today. Down 7 at 5:30 or so left. Turn back and up 1.
