Scout’s Expanded and Updated Class of 2019 Top 60 Player Rankings Released

Scout.com released an updated and expanded Top 60 for the Class of 2019 on Friday and the Friars already have some targets that are among the best in the country as high school sophomores. Get to Know Them:

  • Chol Marial came to the United States from the South Sudan and initially played on the varsity at West Oaks Academy in Orlando, FL as an eight-grader before attending Chesire Academy for high school beginning in the Fall of 2015. He was recently shut down for the remainder of the season due to shin splints. He sports an 7’11” wingspan and is a cousin of Milwaukee Buck Thon Maker.
  • Joey Baker is a the great-nephew Ralph Hubbard who played at Boston University in the mid-1950’s. He grew up a Boston Celtics fan and, despite being born in North Carolina, Baker lived near Boston until the age of 5 when the family returned to Fayeteville.
  • Bryce Wills attended Providence’s Elite Camp last summer. He was offered by the Friars after that. He plays at Iona Prep and is a 6’5 point guard.
  • Kofi Cockburn hails from Jamaica and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.  He’s only been in the United States for about two years but has been making a name for himself at Christ the King with thunderous dunk after thunderous dunk. He was named the MVP of the SNY Invitational earlier this year.
  • Aundre Hyatt transferred to The Miller School in Virginia from Stepinac in New York this summer. Before being at Stepinac, Hyatt was at Fork Union Military Academy. He ran with the NY Lightning and the Hoop Strong Warrior previously but will play with Boo Williams this spring and summer on the Nike EYBL circuit.
  • Josh Nickelberry transferred to Trinity Christian from Northwood Temple this summer and picked up a Providence offer in August.  He ran with Team Loaded NC but will now be with the Georgia Stars on the Nike EYBL circuit.
  • Isaiah Stewart was on the U16 USA Basketball mini-camp roster in October. He broke his tailbone during that tryout and missed most of his high school season following surgery. He made his season debut at McQuaid Jesuit on February 1st.
  • Hyatt and Wills both re-classified from 2018 to 2019 this past summer while Baker re-classified from 2018 to 2019 the summer before.
