Ed Cooley Postgame Press Conference After 20-Point Win Over Maine 12/20/16

Here’s Providence’s postgame press conference with Ed Cooley:

Here are some of Cooley’s thoughts:

  • Not a rhythm game for Providence, credit to Maine for playing hard.
  • Providence got out to a good start but then the ball stopped moving, stopped sharing the ball. Only 12 assists on 26 made FG’s is not how they want to play.
  • Jalen Lindsey gave Providence a lot of energy the whole game
  • 29 3-point attempts is too much for a game like this. A lot of the looks were open and they need to take open shots but 8/29…”Stevie Wonder could shoot better than that.”
  • If he was told in July that they’d have a chance to be 11-2 in the non-conference he’d have taken that.
  • Fortunate to move on and win despite not playing their best for the entire game.
  • Since he’s been at Providence they’ve been good on the road, thought they played well at Ohio State and the neutral games down in Florida. “I think we’re damn good on the road, to be honest.”
  • Excited with where his team is right now. Glad to have gotten the young players a lot of minutes in this game.
  • Maliek White is coming along as a point guard. It’s hard to get up to speed with how they want to play but he’s happy with his progression.
  • Everyone continues to talk about Ben Bentil and Kris Dunn but it’s a different time. Cooley enjoys this team.
  • It’s tough to coach against a friend in Bob Walsh. Cooley is proud of him and happy for him that he got one of the only 351 jobs.
  • Cooley hopes Conte Forum is sold out with Providence fans on Friday. He encouraged Providence fans to show up in force and maybe have some egg nog before the 4pm tipoff.
  • Talked about Lindsey gaining about 45 pounds from the time they started recruiting him. Getting in the weight room gives him confidence. Cooley “appreciative of how much he has grown and has taken the lead role as a voice for us…his voice dominates our locker room right now, he and Kyron.”
  • Looks at the Boston College series as a good matchup because of the close travel, playing a Power 5 team, two Catholic schools, alumni base and fans can travel to the game.
  • Finishing the non-conferance season with a road game is helpful with Providence opening Big East play with two road games at Xavier and Butler. Playing on the road at Boston College “will be good practice for us.”
