Providence Sophomore Tyree Chambers Transferring

Providence announced Friday that sophomore Tyree Chambers is leaving school.  Chambers, like freshman big man Quadree Smith who opted to transfer earlier this week, was a late addition to a Providence recruiting class. Chambers came to Friartown from Germany and was largely viewed as insurance for Kris Dunn who was coming off a second shoulder surgery. Chambers played in 14 games in two season at Providence.

“We appreciate Tyree’s efforts over the last two years,” Providence Head Coach Ed Cooley said. “He has been an excellent teammate and a first-class individual during his time at Providence. We wish him all the best athletically and academically with his future plans.”

This frees up another scholarship, both for the upcoming 2016-17 season, as well as the 2017-18 season. Providence is set to host 2016 Canadian big man Kalif Young next weekend and the Friars have also been mentioned with some transfer options like the Martin twins. Ben Bentil is set to take part in the NBA Draft combine next week and he still has to make a decision about staying in the draft or coming back to Providence for his junior season. Bentil has until May 25th to make that decision. Until then, Providence continues to recruit in an effort to upgrade the talent on their roster.
