Providence Lands Juco Forward Emmitt Holt

Providence has landed their second recruit for next season with the commitment of junior college forward Emmitt Holt of Indian Hills JC. Holt’s commitment was first reported by Eric Bossi of Rivals.com. Holt, at Indian Hills JC by way of Indiana, adds some much needed size for Ed Cooley’s frontline next season. Holt visited Providence’s campus last weekend, along with Wake Forest graduate transfer Andre Washington.

I detailed Holt’s travails in an article last week, so you can read about that here. Holt will have two years of eligibility left and is eligible right away once he completes his semester at Indian Hills next month. Holt joins 2016 guard Maliek White as part of Providence’s incoming recruiting class and this now means that any additional bodies added to Providence’s roster for next season will have to come at the expense of someone who was on the 2015-16 roster. Ben Bentil has declared for the NBA draft, but he hasn’t hired an agent and can still return to Friartown for his junior season.

Holt is a native of native of Webster, NY who was set to head to Vermont Academy for a post-graduate year when he committed to Tom Crean and Indiana in August of 2014. He is listed at 6’8 and reports indicate his wingspan of 7’3. He is more of a banger down low who shot 69.5% this past season for former Providence student manager and graduate assistant Hank Plona at Indian Hills. With word that Marvin Clark plans to commit to St. John’s sometime this week, adding Holt — who is also immediately eligible versus Clark having to sit a year — gives Providence some needed size inside. A source has told pcbb1917.com that Andre Washington could also commit to the Friars pending the shakeout of scholarships.

Maybe this is just me, but as soon I read about this kid’s commitment after reading about him the last few days, my first thought was that this makes up for PC losing Paschal, since they now have a big man with a 7ft plus wingspan.

He isn’t a center and is lacking about 5 inches of height compared to Chukwu. Henton also had a big-time wingspan. It just helps with rebounding and offsets him being a little undersized. Holt will definitely help.
