Big East Tournament Seed Watch Final Edition of 2016

All ten Big East teams are in action on Saturday and only half the league is locked into their Big East Tournament seed as of now. Providence, Butler, Creighton, Marquette and Georgetown have scenarios where they could move out of their current slots and I’ll detail all of those scenarios in this final edition of the Big East Tournament Seed Watch. The Big East Tournament begins on Wedneday, March 9th. The announcer pairings were released on Thursday afternoon and you can find the schedule of games below.

The first game of the tournament will be at 7pm on Wednesday, March 9th with another game that night at 9:30pm. All games will be televised on Fox Sports 1, with the finals on March 12th being televised on FOX.

Here is where we stand through games on 3/2/2016:

Seed Movement Scenarios

This is the final edition of “Seed Watch” before all 10 teams will play their final games on Saturday. Those games will determine the final seed positions for each team. Some teams are locked into their spots, but there are a few in the middle that could finish anywhere from 3rd to 8th. I’ll first give scenarios on a team-by-team basis below.

If Providence…

  • Wins against St. John’s, the Friars lock up the 4 seed. They own the tiebreakers against Butler and Creighton.
  • Loses against St. John’s, Butler wins against Marquette and Creighton loses against Xavier, the Friars would be the 5 seed,
  • Loses against St. John’s, Butler wins against Marquette and Creighton wins against Xavier, the Friars would be the 6 seed.
  • Loses against St. John’s, Butler loses against Marquette and Creighton loses against Xavier, the Friars would be the 5 seed.
  • Loses against St. John’s, Butler loses against Marquette and Creighton wins against Xavier, the Friars would be the 6 seed.

If Butler…

  • Wins against Marquette, Providence wins against St. John’s and Creighton wins against Xavier, the Bulldogs would be the 6 seed.
  • Wins against Marquette, Providence wins against St. John’s and Creighton loses against Xavier, the Bulldogs would be the 5 seed.
  • Wins against Marquette, Providence loses against St. John’s, Creighton wins against Xavier, the Bulldogs would be  the 5 seed.
  • Wins against Marquette, Providence loses against St. John’s, Creighton loses against Xavier, the Bulldogs would be the 4 seed.
  • Loses against Marquette, Providence wins against St. John’s and Creighton wins against Xavier, the Bulldogs would be the 6 seed.
  • Loses against Marquette, Providence wins against St. John’s and Creighton loses against Xavier, the Bulldogs would be the 7 seed.

If Creighton…

  • Wins against Xavier, Providence wins against St. John’s and Butler wins against Marquette, the Bluejays would be the 5 seed.
  • Wins against Xavier, Providence wins against St. John’s and Butler loses against Marquette, the Bluejays would be the 5 seed.
  • Wins against Xavier, Providence loses against St. John’s and Butler wins against Marquette, the Bluejays would be the 4 seed.
  • Wins against Xavier, Providence loses against St. John’s and Butler loses against Marquette, the Bluejays would be the 4 seed.
  • Loses against Xavier, Providence wins against St. John’s and Butler wins against Marquette, the Bluejays would be the 6 seed.
  • Loses against Xavier, Providence wins against St. John’s and Butler loses against Marquette, the Bluejays would be the 6 seed.

If Marquette…

  • Wins against Butler, Providence wins against St. John’s and Creighton wins against Xavier, the Golden Eagles would be the 6 seed.
  • Wins against Butler, Providence wins against St. John’s and Creighton loses against Xavier, the Golden Eagles would be the 5 seed.
  • Wins against Butler, Providence loses against St. John’s and Creighton wins against Xavier, the Golden Eagles would be the 5 seed.
  • Wins against Butler, Providence loses against St. John’s and Creighton loses against Xavier, the Golden Eagles would be the 4 seed.
  • Loses against Butler and Georgetown wins against Villanova, the Golden Eagles would be the 8 seed.
  • Loses against Butler and Georgetown loses against Villanova, the Golden Eagles would be the 7 seed.

If Georgetown…

  • Wins against Villanova and Marquette wins against Butler, the Hoyas would be the 8 seed.
  • Wins against Villanova and Marquette loses against Butler, the Hoyas would be the 7 seed.
  • Loses against Villanova the Hoyas would be the 8 seed.
