Jerry Palm’s Updated Bracketology Heading Into MLK Weekend

Jerry Palm has updated his bracket at CBSSports.com heading into the MLK Weekend’s action. The last Palm bracket I reported on was released on January 11th and featured five Big East teams in the field of 68. The total number of teams in Palm’s field is the same, but he has moved another Big East team up to the 1 seed line, making two teams from the league that have half of the 1 seeds in Palm’s bracket.

Providence

Providence is 1-0 this week with a road win at Creighton on their resume, despite an ugly performance from both teams in the 50-48 Friar win. Palm has left the Friars alone as a 3 seed in Oklahoma City and they are now facing 14th seeded Texas A&M CC in the First Round. This is the same seed line and region for Providence as Palm’s last update.

The Rest of the Big East

The big news in Palm’s last update was that he slid Xavier up to the 1 line. The big news in this update is that he has slid Villanova to the 1 line. That means the Big East possesses two of the four 1 seeds in Palm’s bracket. Quite a return from the requiem. Xavier is the 1 seed in the Midwest Region facing the winner of 16th seeded Hampton and Bucknell. Villanova is the 1 seed in the West region facing 16th seeded Montana. The other three Big East teams in Palm’s bracket stood pat on their seed line from his last update. Providence remains a 3 seed, Butler remains a 7 seed and Seton Hall remains a 10 seed.

Providence’s Non-Con Opponents

Michigan State fell off the 1 line after their blowout loss at home against Iowa on Thursday night. Arizona is a 4 seed in Palm’s latest bracket.

  2. […] Providence 1-1 week leaves fans with a bad taste in their mouth after the week concluded with a loss at home to Seton Hall after winning an ugly game at the buzzer in Omaha. Lunardi has slid Providence down multiple seed lines to the 6 line. Palm, on the other hand, kept the Friars on the 3 line, which is where he had them entering the weekend. […]
