Providence Recruiting Update: National Prep Showcase Will Attract Friar Staff

The annual National Prep Showcase will be in New Haven, CT this weekend beginning with a 10:30am tip between Notre Dame Prep and Fork Union Military Academy. The Providence staff will take the trip down 95 South — watch out for night construction! — to attend the event hosted by the New England Recruiting Report. Of particular interest to Ed Cooley and his staff is a big man from a different military academy.

Iran Bennett and his Hargrave Military Academy squad plays at 12pm on Friday against South Kent. Bennett told pcbb1917.com early last week that the Friars were his favorite and recruiting him the hardest. He is planning on visiting the Providence campus soon but does not plan to make the trip north from New Haven this weekend.

South Kent is more known for their backcourt that includes 2017 Tremont Waters but they do have a talented big man this season. Bennett will have to deal with Andrew Gordon — another player with interest from the Providence staff. Gordon is in his first season at South Kent after graduating from Dunedin High School in Florida. Gordon’s senior season at Dunedin was his first season of organized basketball. Gordon also has offers from Arkansas, La Salle, Memphis and Ole Miss to go along with some others.

Hargraves’s game on Saturday 1pm is against Northfield Mount Hermon.  Bennett will face more big men with Providence offers/interest like Tomas Murphy (2017) and Nate Laszewski (2018).
