Providence Recruits to Play in Under Armour Elite 24 Event in NYC

Under Armour will be hosting an event — the 10th annual — on August 21st and 22nd in Brooklyn, NY from Pier 2. The Under Armour Elite 24 brings together some of the best players from the Under Armour Association circuit — along with a few players from other shoe company circuits — that is played from April through July, culminating this year with The Finals held in Atlanta during the second of three live evaluation periods of July.

Providence has a few recruits among these 24 elite players, including two that have included the Friars in their final school lists. Friday will have a 3-point shooting contest and dunk contest starting at 7pm EDT. The showcase game — pitting teams EZ Pass against Team Doo Be Doo — will tip off on Saturday at 7pm EDT. That game will be televised on ESPNU with Mike Couzens calling the play-by-play and Paul Biancardi and Jay Williams providing analysis.

The Friars are in Gabriel’s final 5 schools with a visit date still pending and they are scheduled to get a visit from Ponds on September 11th. Providence is in Ponds’ final 4. The Friars are also heavily recruiting Diallo in the class of 2017 but he has already blown up and could be slipping away from Cooley and Co. Diallo is playing at Putnam Science Academy again this season and will be joined by a number of other Friar targets so expect to see the Providence staff on that campus frequently this upcoming year.
