Bracket Officially Released for 2015 Wooden Legacy Tournament

Providence’s opponent in the first round of the 2015 Wooden Legacy Tournament presented by DIRECTV — Evansville — has been known for a couple of weeks now. Today it became official with the release of the bracket for the entire field. Providence gets the Purple Aces in round 1 on November 26th with the game tipping off at 9pm ET on ESPNU. As expected the Friars would then play either Arizona or Santa Clara on November 27th.

If Providence were to lose to Evansville they would play at 9pm ET on ESPN3 and if they were to beat Evansville they would play at 11:30pm ET on ESPN2. Should they Friars advance to the championship game on November 29th that game will be played at 10pm ET on ESPN2. As I discussed when the matchups were initially reported back on July 20th, Evansville won’t be a pushover, especially for a young Friar team early in the season. The Purple Aces return DJ Balentine who averaged 20.1 points/game a season ago to lead the team. That mark was also 15th in the nation. Balentine was a 1st team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection a season ago for a 24-12 Evansville squad that won the CIT. Balentine and Kris Dunn should be one of the better early-season guard matchups in 2015-16.
