2015 Brodricks Jones Will Visit Providence in August

Providence is continuing the search for big men to come in immediately as part of their recruiting class of 2015. Recent San Diego State decommit Brodricks Jones is the latest target that Ed Cooley is zeroing in on. Jon Rothstein tweeted that Jones plans to visit Providence sometime during the first week of August. Jones currently has dates set for visits to UTEP (August 1st) and Memphis (August 4th). The ideal scenario for the Friars would be to get Jones on campus around August 8th when they plan to host their annual Elite Camp. Jones decommitted from the Aztecs at the end of June shortly after receiving a qualifying SAT score. He originally committed to Steve Fisher on July 31, 2014 and signed a National Letter of Intent in November 2014.

The Friars did bring in IMG Academy big man Quadree Smith in June but they clearly want another big body up front to help offset the inexplicable transfer of 7’2 rising sophomore Paschal Chukwu who was in line to start for Cooley’s Friars in 2015-16. Jones is only big in the sense that he is 6’9. The Los Angeles native lacks Smith’s girth at the present time but has skill and is ranked 162nd nationally in the class of 2015 by 247sports.com’s composite national ranking. That ranking means he would become the highest ranked player in Providence’s incoming class of 2015 after Alex Owens — ranked 138th by the same composite national ranking — failed to qualify.

The Friars have 1 open scholarship currently after adding George Mason transfer Isaiah Jackson and while the possibility still exists that Cooley will pull an international big man out of his USA Basketball coaching experience, Jones may well be Providence’s last recruiting swing for next season. The Friars may have an in with Jones as he is reportedly friends with current Providence sophomore guard Kyron Cartwright. Cartwright is also an LA native.
