Providence 2015 Frontcourt Target Commits to Boston College

After beefing up the frontcourt with the commitment of 6’8 250 pound Quadree Smith, Ed Cooley has missed out on adding length to that frontcourt as 2015 Sound Doctrine Christian Academy big man JC Reyes committed to Boston College on Thursday, per ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. Reyes visited Providence on June 11th and 12th after tripping to Boston College. He was also considering Penn State and South Florida. Cooley and the Friars still have an open scholarship for 2015 but the available options are increasingly more slim.

At 6’10 Reyes would have provided the length that Providence is lacking with the departures of Carson Desrosiers (graduation) and Paschal Chukwu (transfer). The Friars currently have no one on their roster over 6’8 and only Ben Bentil and Smith could even be considered true big men.

The status of Alex Owens remains uncertain as the final opportunity to take the ACT exam was June 13th. The possibility exists of another scholarship opening up should Owens not qualify. A report on Wednesday evening indicated that NC State transfer Kyle Washington intends on visiting Providence before deciding on a new school but a date hasn’t been announced. Cooley is currently in Colorado Springs with USA Basketball’s U19 team. He and the team leave for Greece on Sunday and he won’t be back until early July.
