Providence Recruiting NC State Transfer Kyle Washington

Eric Hoffses of Rivals.com reported on Twitter that Providence is actively recruiting NC State transfer Kyle Washington. Washington spent two seasons at NC State and news broke of his intention to transfer on April 15th.

Washington, a left-hander,  was a rotation player at NC State who played in 70 games during his 2 seasons in Raleigh. He started 43 of those 70 games and averaged 18.9 minutes/game, 5.8 points/game and 3.97 rebounds/game for his career with the Wolfpack.

Prior to enrolling at NC State, Washington played a post-graduate season at Brewster Academy and was ranked 82nd by 247sports.com‘s composite national ranking in the class of 2013. The 6’9, 230-pound native of Minnesota ran with Howard Pulley on the Nike EYBL circuit and also attended Hotchkiss School in Connecticut prior to finishing at Brewster. Washington’s wingspan was measured as 6’11.5 in 2012 at the LeBron James Camp.

Adam Zagoria reported that Washington “has heard from about 20 schools.”

A source told me that some of the schools that have reached out include Butler, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Marquette, Michigan State, Minnesota, South Carolina and St John’s. That source also indicated that Washington is still speaking with schools but plans to eventually form a list of schools to visit.

Providence recruited Washington prior to him choosing NC State. The Friars currently only have 1 open scholarship to play with for next season and they are also heavily involved with another sophomore transfer in Nigel Williams-Goss. Williams-Goss visited Providence last weekend and will reportedly make a decision after visiting Gonzaga this weekend and Ohio State next weekend. Both players would have to sit out the 2015-16 season, per NCAA transfer rules.
