Lousiville Transfer Anton Gill to Visit Providence

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reported on Twitter that Louisville transfer Anton Gill will visit Providence on April 17th. The 6’3 guard played two seasons under Rick Pitino as a Cardinal but his play was inconsistent. Gill indicated he is “looking for a fresh start” in a statement released by the school. The southpaw will have two years of eligibility remaining after he sits a year, per NCAA transfer rules.

Gill averaged 2.5 points/game in 9.4 minutes/game in his sophomore season at Lousville. The North Carolina native shot just 35.3% (30/85) from the field and 25.6% (11/43) from beyond the arc. Gill had a nice stretch during Louisville’s Sweet 16 win over NC State where he scored 7 points on 3/3 from the field in 11 minutes but was largely inconsistent with 15 regular season games this season where he played but didn’t score. Gill was a prolific scorer in high school at Hargrave Military Academy, averaging 28.2 points/game.

Gill and Fordham transfer Eric Paschall now make two transfers that Providence will receive visits from but neither will be eligible until the 2016-17 season after sitting a year, per NCAA transfer rules. Providence will continue to monitor Kris Dunn’s situation and that could be the biggest factor in the Friar coaching staff trying to lure a 5th year transfer to Providence to bridge a gap for the 2015-16 season should Dunn opt to forego his eligibility and enter the 2015 NBA Draft.
