Big East Tournament Seed Watch 3/5/15

With every Big East team having played 17 league games and the final games for all teams being played Saturday afternoon, let’s take a look at where teams stand in terms of seeding for the Big East Tournament. There are still some interesting scenarios, especially for Providence, that will play out between 12pm and 4pm on Saturday.

The first game of the tournament will be at 7pm on Wednesday, March 11th with another game that night at 9:30pm. All games will be televised on Fox Sports 1.

Here is where we stand through games on 3/4/2015:

Seed Movement Scenarios and Tiebreakers

Villanova locked up the #1 seed a few games ago so no surprises at the top. Xavier has locked up the #6 seed. Seeds 2-5 are still up in the air entering the regular season finales. Let’s examine some scenarios and tiebreakers for the top 5 seeds.

Here are the scenarios for the #2 seed:

  • Providence is the #2 seed with a win over Butler
  • Georgetown is the #2 seed with a win over Seton Hall and a Providence loss to Butler
  • Butler is the #2 seed with a win over Providence and and a Georgetown loss to Seton Hall

Here are the scenarios for the #3 seed:

  • Providence is the #3 seed with a loss to Butler and a Georgetown loss to Seton Hall
  • Georgetown is the #3 seed with a win against Seton Hall and a Providence win against Butler
  • Georgetown is the #3 seed with a loss to Seton Hall and a Providence win against Butler
  • Butler is the #3 seed with a win against Providence and a Georgetown win against Seton Hall
  • St. John’s is the #3 seed with a win against Villanova and losses by Providence and Georgetown

Here are the scenarios for the #4 seed:

  • Providence is the #4 seed with a loss to Butler and Villanova and Georgetown wins.
  • Georgetown is the #4 seed with a loss to Seton Hall, a Butler win against Providence and a Villanova win against St. John’s
  • Butler is the #4 seed with a loss to Providence, a Georgetown win against Seton Hall and a Villanova win against St. John’s
  • St. John’s is the #4 seed with a win against Villanova and a Providence loss to Butler
  • St. John’s is the #4 seed with a win against Villanova and a Georgetown loss to Seton Hall

Here are the scenarios for the #5 seed:

  • Providence is the #5 seed with a loss to Butler and wins by Georgetown and St. John’s
  • Georgetown is the #5 seed with a loss to Seton Hall and wins by Providence and St. John’s
  • Butler is the #5 seed with a loss to Providence and wins by Georgetown and St. John’s
