Top Half Scenarios

There are some interesting scenarios that could move teams way up or way down depending on how the last week of the regular season plays out.

Butler, Georgetown and Providence are all in play for the #2 seed right now. Butler holds the position on 3/2/15 because they already have 11 wins in the league. However, the Bulldogs play Georgetown and Providence for the final two games this week. If Butler wins out they would be the #2 seed behind Villanova. If the Bulldogs lose out they could slip as far down as the #4 seed because even if St. John’s wins out and also gets to 11 wins Butler beat the Red Storm twice this year and would own that tiebreaker.

Now what about Georgetown? If the Hoyas win out they could own the #2 seed but only if Butler beats Providence on 3/7. If Providence wins out it doesn’t matter what Georgetown does because the Friars would be the #2 seed. Providence swept Georgetown and owns that tiebreaker. The worst case scenario for Georgetown should they lose out is to be the #5 seed. That would assume St. John’s wins out or wins a tiebreaker should they both finish at 10 wins.

Providence controls their own destiny in the same way that Butler does. Either team winning out results in the #2 seed. Both teams can’t win out though because they will face each other for the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon in Providence. That game could very well be for the #2 seed if Butler beats Georgetown and Providence beats Seton Hall during the week. Providence’s worst case scenario is losing out and finishing as the #5 seed. For that scenario to play out it also assumes St. John’s gets to at least 10 wins.
