Game Notes

  • This will mark the 20th meeting all-time between Providence and Marquette. The series is currently led by Marquette, 14-5. The series is tied, 3-3, when played in Providence. Providence went 1-1 against Marquette last season and are 0-1 against the Golden Eagles this season. The Friars lost at Marquette, 61-50. Providence has yet to win a game at Marquette. Ever.
  • Marquette enters the Dunkin’ Donuts Center following a 73-52 loss at Butler on February 25th. The Golden Eagles are led in scoring by senior Matt Carlino, who averages 14.3 points/game. Marquette is led in rebounding by senior Juan Anderson, who averages 6.3 rebounds/game.
  • Providence is coming off a road drubbing on February 24th at Villanova, 89-61. Carson Desrosiers missed that game due to a knee injury. The Friars were led in scoring by Tyler Harris’ 18 points.
  • LaDontae Henton remains in 6th place on the all-time points scored list at Providence with 1,958 career points. Henton trails Jamel Thomas by 13 points for 5th all-time and Henton is 42 points away from 2,000 career points. Henton is also just 3 rebounds away from 1,000 for his career. If he were to accomplish both the scoring and rebounding feats Henton would join Ryan Gomes as the only other Friar to accomplish those career milestones. Carson Desrosiers is 8th on the all-time blocked shots list at Providence College with 153 blocks through 61 career games as a Friar. Desrosiers is 2 blocks behind Randall Hanke for 7th place in school history. Kris Dunn‘s 200 assists this season rank him 10th on the all-time assists in a season list. Next on the list is Carlton Screen, who had 202 assists in the 1989-90 season.
  • The line opened with Providence as a 9 point favorite.

Game Preview

I’m not going to do too deep of an analysis in this space for this game. If Providence can limit Matt Carlino’s shooting ability and keep Luke Fischer in check down low they should win this game fairly handily. I expect that will happen

Prediction: Providence 73 Marquette 62
